You will be aware that Warwickshire is one of eight local authorities in the country which received notification from government this week of potential financial support for residents, business owners and farmers that have been affected by flooding. The criteria for the funding has been released today and in the coming week information about how residents can apply for funding will be made available. However, critical to our eligibility for releasing this funding is the need to meet the 50 flooded properties threshold set out in the funding criteria. This requires that at least 50 properties have been confirmed as having been flooded.
As part of our flood recovery work, officers from the County are working closely together with district and borough colleagues and Environment Agency staff to carry out door-knocking in flood affected areas. They are speaking to residents and dropping leaflets where residents are not home in order to encourage them to come forward and confirm that their properties have been flooded. To date we have received official notification of just over 30 properties having been affected. We had intelligence during the event that suggested up to 69 properties may have been affected, so it is critical that we continue to encourage those affected to come forward.
Our communication teams are working on getting press releases as well as social media messages out urging property owners and business that have been flooded to make contact with our Flood Risk Management Team. Can I please ask that if you are aware of any residents in your constituencies that have been affected by the flooding that you encourage them to make contact with our Flood Risk Management Team so that they can be confirmed and potential funding can be released. They can do this really simply through the Council’s website at: Flood Risk Management – Warwickshire County Council Alternatively email the team with the details and we will get someone to drop a leaflet off to them.
